Arlene
Arlene she told me in the kitchen
if it was true love I was missing
Then I should go no further than the back of a horse
For she had already seen love run its course
Arlene told me she was pleasing
those around her all the four seasons
she never thought he would take to any other, why should he
when she worked so hard to make him oh so happy
so go
and take the back door, hit the road
say no
don't put that age old knife to your throat
Arlene said that day she found out
she didn't run, didn't scream or shout
but took up the offer the next day at the bar
and went to go ride in some other cowboys car
So don't
you ever marry you sweet girl
say no
don't put that age old knife to your curl
As the rain poured down
her thoughts settled like a cloud
and I'm left to wonder if the truth is in her tongue
or if I'm to be undone
So I'll go
and take the back door hit the road
I'll say no
won't put that age old knife to my throat
Oh Arlene what you done

Cherry Blossoms
04:10
|
|||
I am leaving when the cherry blossoms bloom
and now that time is coming much too soon
and when I look in the grayness of your eyes
I see our nights falling through your sky
The purple crocus in the garden finds, its way
and yet I'm lost in the blueness of each day
it holds my heart hostage and drags me down
when I'm just trying to get up and leave this town
I'm gonna drive that pass
gonna drive so fast
So I won't
when you don't make a fool out of me
Its in the silence at the sunrise of the day
when the warmth of night in your eyes fades
if you could just lie next to me and not turn, away
but I'll stave my tongue and you will have your way
I'm gonna drive that pass
gonna drive so fast
So I won't see
when you don't watch as I leave
But every time we leave the harbor of your room
you change, you sigh you're as cold as the moon
you've become deaf to the sweetness of my voice
just remember that this was your choice
I'm gonna drive that pass
gonna drive so fast
So I won't see
when you make a fool out of me

The Tidelands
03:14
|
|||
We walked out onto the tidelands
but all you saw was the plain gray sand
I told you baby, there is life beneath
I took your hand and you clenched your teeth
I turned over a rock and cut my hand
my blood fell on the eggs in the sand
you did startle, at the life you saw below
I said that in time it will grow
For thats the reason, the reason that we're damned
I see the life, but you just see the sand
I'd have bled for you both inside and out
to show you love for which you have no doubt
to show you love for which you have no doubt
We walked along as I told you all the names
of the living things buried deep beneath the grains
you looked at me as though I was from some other place
I took your hand and saw your body tense
So next time you walk the tidelands
with some other woman, with cleaner hands
make sure to keep your heart far away
Don't let it ruin you as it did today
Don't let it ruin you as it does today
